    In this macromolecule lab, students learn about the three food-based biomolecules by testing for triglycerides, glucose, starch, and proteins. Students will use indicator solutions like test strips, paper bag stain test, iodine, and Biuret solution. Students experiment on the following mystery substances: vegetable oil, glucose, corn starch, powdered egg whites, and water.

    In this enzyme lab, students will discover the effects temperature, pH, and substrate concentration has on enzyme activity. Students will experiment on the enzyme catalase in different foods to determine its qualitative rate of reaction. This enzyme lab asks students to transfer the enzyme activity concepts in this experiment to homeostasis in organisms.
