    Lecture
This PowerPoint is a great introduction to get students thinking about where the atoms come from to build a plant and to build a human.

    Experiment
Students will learn how photosynthesis is used by a plant to make sugars. These sugars are then used to perform cellular respiration to make energy. The sugars are converted into larger molecules like cellulose to help build the structure of plant cells. Students should also recognize that plants grow by cell division.

    Assessment
This quiz assesses students knowledge of macromolecules including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids. Students need to know what are organic compounds, metabolism, and monomer and polymer examples of the four macromolecules.

    Worksheet
Students will be able to explain how energy is transferred in nature and the equations of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Hand out this worksheet before introducing cellular energy. Students are to fill in this worksheet while you teach about the transfer of energy from food to ATP. Students then use this worksheet as a central place to study from to prepare for a test or quiz.

    Experiment
Students experiment with different unknown substances and test if they are composed of carbohydrates. Including monomer sugars (Monosaccharides) & polymer starches (Polysaccharides). The goal of this experience is to give students real evidence for the presence of monomers and polymers in organisms/food.
