Genetic Drift Simulation

The Manual Version

Choosing a random number

Click on the die above and see if you can predict what number will be rolled next. This die will only roll a number between 1 and 5.
This simulation, like evolution itself, is based on random events. There are several ways to choose a random number. One way is to roll a die. There is a simulated "5-sided" die to the left. We will show you how to do the simulation using this die.

You can also use a random number table, which is just a series of randomly-generated numbers.

Preparing for the manual simulation

To complete the manual version of the Genetic Drift Simulation you need the Worm Worksheet and colored pencils in 5 different colors.
If you don't have the Worm Worksheet, download and print the Worm Worksheet in PDF format. To read PDF files, Acrobat Reader must be installed.
