  • Lab Experiment
Structure of Seeds and Effects of Fertilizer on Plant Growth
    Lesson Plan

    Experiment
Students learn about the structural components of seeds of higher plants and the functions of each of these components. Students also investigate how fertilizer affects the growth of plants, particularly of seedlings, and how this relates to seed structure.

  • Lab Experiment
    The Earthworm and Soil Fertilization
    Lesson Plan

    Experiment
Students observe how an earthworm influences soil structure (The ingestion of soil; the partial breakdown of organic matter; the mixture of these factions, and the ejection of this material as surface or sub-surface casts; the formation of water-stable aggregates; the aeration of the soil, and the improvement of its water-holding capacity; the addition of lime to the soil.). Students should develop an appreciation for earthworms.

    Worksheet
Students read the rhymes about arthropods and predict which associated scientific term explain the rhyme.

  • Lab Experiment
    Structure and Function of Seeds
    Lesson Plan

    Experiment
In the following exercises the structure of a seed (particularly the embryo) is observed and two experiments are performed to show the function of the cotyledons in providing nourishment to the plant during the early times after germination.
